Toronto No-Ship Math Trade
Local math trades are an opportunity to trade away boardgames and other items you no longer want and receive new items or gift cards in exchange without the hassle and cost of shipping. Arrangements are made online in advance with successfully traded items brought to the physical trade location.

Step 1: Posting Items
Monday, October 18 until Monday, November 8 at 7 pm
After reading through the rules on this page, register for this trade by submitting your information in the form below, then submit your items to the BGG Geeklist to offer things that you are willing to trade away.
Acceptable Items:
Posted Games must include the following information:
Combining multiple objects into one item can allow a trade for a more valuable item, since items trade one for one. When using bundles, sweeteners, or a choice of things, ensure your description is clear and use the "Insert Geek Link" drop-down so items show up in the OLWLG. |
|
Duplicate Items must be added using the copies command, including gift cards of the same value, by including the following text in the item description:
%Options%
Copies: 3 %End% |
Edits can be made to your items, including adding sweeteners or deleting items, anytime during the submission period. If an item is on your want list, you will receive notifications about any changes, and have the option to accept those changes if you are still interested in that item.
Questions on your post must be responded to before the end of the submission period. If you notice incomplete postings, feel free to ask for more information about the version or condition of the item before adding them to your want list.
OLWLG updates are manual so the list will rarely match the Geeklist during the submission period. Allow up to 24 hours for submitted items or changes to be visible on the OLWLG. You can modify your OLWLG settings if you want to receive notifications when the trade is sync'd.
Want Lists can be worked on during the submission period, though they can't be submitted yet. This is encouraged since it can take a while to go through the offered items and decide what trades you'll make.

Step 2: Want Lists
Monday, November 8 at 8 pm until Saturday, November 13 at 2 pm
Want lists are how you declare which of your items you are willing to trade for which other items. They are created and submitted through the Online Want List Generator (or OLWLG). Logging in with your BGG account allows the site to detect which trades you are participating in and which items you have offered. During this time, you may not add or edit any items to the geeklist.
Valuing the items in a trade is one of the hardest parts of the process. The trade software prioritizes making the most trades possible, so the most desirable items will go to the pickiest participants. But being picky on your want list means that you are less likely to trade your items. Generally, expect that each of your offered items will trade for the least valuable item included on your want list, so make sure each check box represents a trade that you would be happy to make. Overall, about 30% of the submitted items will trade.
Duplicate protection allows you to specify that you don't want to receive more than one copy of a particular item. This is one of the more confusing aspects of the trading process, but including it can save you a lot of disappointment. This image can help explain the different parts of duplicate protection.
Arbitrage of any kind is prohibited, such as including a gift card in the want list for another gift card or including a game plus sweetener or expansion in the want list for the same game.
Gift Cards are subject to BGG's sales commission of 3%, payable by the recipient of the gift card, as explained in this thread: Cash Value Trades in Math Trades.
Check your want list multiple times and review the description of items you want, as you are committed to making the indicated trades once your want list is submitted.

- Click on "How to Submit Your Lists" which is highlighted dark green when in the OLWLG's Step 4
- Click the grey button "Submit My Wants" near the top of the window
- Confirm receipt of a geekmail message, which is a copy of what you are sending me
Step 3: Physical Trade
Update: November 20 - Times are here!
Drop off times are the LATEST you must drop off. You may come earlier as long as it is after 12 noon.
Pick up times are the EARLIEST you may pick up. You may come later as long as it is before 6 pm.
You may wait in the trade area or in the store as long as appropriate distances are maintained and crowding is avoided. If there are multiple people waiting to drop off or pick up, please coordinate with each other based on the order of your appointment times.
Gift Cards should be purchased and transferred in advance. If you are receiving GCs, message me when you receive them and don't forget to send the appropriate commission to BGG. If you are sending GCs, please be prepared to show your sent messages when dropping off if I haven't heard from the recipient(s).
Gaming may be possible after the majority of the trade is complete around 3pm, but we don't know how many tables will be available. If you want to join us, let me know by message or at the trade. You will need to show proof of vaccination.

Tentative Results should be available within an hour of the want list deadline. Once uploaded, new links will appear on the OLWLG home page allowing you to view the results summary and other statistics.
Please review the results and advise the organizer of any concerns. The trade will be rerun with new results posted if any rules breaches or technical errors are found excluding the want lists of affected items or users.
Final Results should be available the following day at the latest.
Side Trades and sales of untraded items are encouraged. Arrangements for all side trades and sales will have to be arranged directly, as you may not add these items to those being dropped off at the physical trade. As a starting point of who to reach out to for side trades and sales, the OLWLG will show you which items didn't trade, and who wanted your items and what they were willing to trade for them.
Direct Trades: You may make arrangements directly with each other to transfer items outside of the physical trade, especially if you know each other in real life or live close to each other. If these arrangements are made, the recipient of each item needs to message me before Saturday, November 20 at 2 pm.
Prepare for the Physical Trade by double checking the description of your successfully traded items. The results summary will show only the main item or altname tag, so be sure to check the original post for any included sweeteners or expansions.
Label each of your successfully traded items with a no-residue post-it note or painter's tape identifying:

Trade proposals can be created through BGG if you want to track your trades and receive feedback. This step is typically required in shipping trades, but is optional for this one. If you receive any trade proposals that match the final results, please accept them and provide appropriate feedback after the trade.
Physical Trade: Sunday, November 21 between 12 noon and 6 pm
COVID Protocols: Everyone is required to wear a mask inside the store. Vaccinations are only required if you will be staying to play games.
Appointments: You will receive an email by Saturday, November 20 with your appointment time(s) for the drop off and pick up of your items. Scheduling: The easy option is scheduling each drop off between 12 and 3 pm, and pick up between 3 and 6 pm. Instead, I'm going to attempt a more thoughtful order to minimize wait times. I hope that people trading one or two items will only have one appointment, but this means the person with the highest number of trades may have a drop off at 12 pm and a pick up at 6pm. Of course, this is all theoretical until results are known, so please bear with me! Requests: If you have a preference for your appointment times, include them on your registration form and I will try to accommodate them if possible. Some examples:
Gift Cards: If you are receiving gift cards, or have purchased games with received gift cards, they will be available at your scheduled pick up time. Proxy: If someone else will be dropping off and picking up your items, include their BGG username in your registration form so that your appointment times can be combined. If you need to change this information after registering, but before results are final, message me. |
Concerns about your Received Items
Most participants are careful about checking the components and condition of their games, and accurately posting their items, but it is possible that you receive an item that is not in the condition described. In these rare cases, identifying the concern early is important since it is hard to establish when damage occurred or when components went missing once games leave the trade.
If the concern is noticed on-site, advise the trade organizer immediately.
If the concern isn't noticed until after the trade, contact the original owner directly to resolve the concern. If you are not satisfied after trying to resolve the issue directly, contact the trade organizer.
